Discover Your “Why” When It Comes To Business

What is your motivation or the reason behind why you do what you do? It is common to come across advice in business that suggests being an entrepreneur can be so challenging at times that it is important to have a deep reason as to why you are doing it to push forward. This is supposed to help you stay the course when times get tough, this reason your “why” will keep you going when you may otherwise want to quit. Most people only go 1-2 levels deep when searching for their real “why”, however, to find your true reason, you need to go 7 levels deep into your psyche until you reach the heart of the matter.

Starting and growing a business can be challenging at times, and without a guiding light, without having a clear why, a clear reason backing you it can be tempting to quit after the first setback. The key to going seven levels deep is essentially asking yourself why 7 times or asking the previous question 7 times but going one level deeper each time. For example, when asking yourself “why did I start my business” your answer is “I started my business because I want to have more freedom, both financially and in my life”. The next question would be “why do you want more freedom in your life, why do you feel the need for more freedom?” and you’ll ask this so on and so forth until it’s been asked 7 times. At about the 3rd reiteration of this question, you might feel the focus shift inside yourself from your head to your heart, and on the 7th question, you will find yourself speaking your true why. It may boil down to feeling a want and a need for control in your life, including freedoms, stemming from the way you grew up. The answer is within yourself, you’ve just got to dig 7 levels deep.

The answer to the question on the 7th level should truly tap into your physiology and show you the real reasoning for why you started down this path in the first place. It gives you a reason to reflect, gets you out of bed in the morning, and keeps pushing toward your goals. The reason why you started your own business, the reason why you’re working on building and growing your business. Harness the strength you get from looking 7 levels deep and use it to your advantage when needing an extra reason, an extra push to keep going every day.
