It is hard to imagine what a day would look like without social media. Social media is an indispensable part of most people’s lives. Transcending its original purpose of being a platform to have fun and connect people on a personal level, today, social media has become a crucial tool to promote digital marketing and brand awareness, especially for small businesses, which often struggle with limited resources. In this blog, I will share with you some great insights on what is trendy on social media and how you can take advantage of it to keep your small business staying ahead of the game in 2022.

TikTok and Reels Instagram will continue being the content king

The best platforms for social media today are short and fun video-oriented platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. When I first started my business 7 years ago social media was all about posting nice pictures, long captions on Facebook, and adding the right hashtags. Nowadays, social media is all about targeted short videos. Viewer attention spans nowadays are very short and getting shorter with each iteration of content. Users don't want to read long, drawn-out captions or watch 10-minute long vlogs like they used to. As we have seen time and time again, one person can go from zero to hero overnight with one viral video on TikTok. Unlike pictures or posts, which die out after 1-2 days posted, TikToks, Reels and Shorts continue to amass views and shares even after being up for months, sometimes even getting a second wind and going viral more than once.

Key things to get your TikTok and Reels videos viral

From my experience, to be successful on social media and to go viral on TikTok and Reels, your videos should be:

  • To The Point: Start the video right away with the main content, cut the intro, make sure the first 3 seconds capture the audience's attention, and the ideal video length is 15-20 seconds

  • Trendy: Pay attention to what is trendy on social media, jump on the trend, use the right trending hashtags, and select viral songs to increase the reach of TikToks and Reels

  • Create Purposeful Content: Purely entertaining videos are effective at gaining reach, but from my experience content that adds value is key for engagement. People love learning new things and that is why the viral video I made focused on educating viewers as to how affluent people purchase expensive vehicles. Additionally, diversity promotion is important as the second link leads to an IG reel of one of our many talented Asian female barbers letting the world know that she is just as capable of detailed beard work as any male barber is.
